several other Billy Casper Golf-managed courses across America to launch the program in 2015 and it has quickly become a popular afternoon activity for all ages and skill levels. Ka’anapali hosts an annual fall FootGolf League, along with occasional weddings, reunions, birthday parties and other events on the FootGolf course.
“We love to be able to offer our guests the FootGolf experience at Ka’anapali – this sport has quickly become a new way for families and non-golfers to experience the golf facility,” stated PGA Director of Golf, Sutee Nitakorn. “We also work with the resort’s hotel sales staff and their corporate meeting planners to offer a great non-golf activity that all of their attendees can participate in. FootGolf is a fun
team-building activity and we’ve seen some really unique events here at Ka’anapali as a result,” Nitakorn added.
In FootGolf, each hole is assigned a “par” and players tee (kick) off using a soccer ball, strategically kicking it from tee to “green”, until they make it in the 21-inch cup. Holes are cut into the rough to protect conditions of fairways and greens, and to avoid affecting everyday golfers. The American FootGolf League provides a rulebook for players to follow. Ka’anapali’s 9-hole loop stretches 1,165 yards and is a par 34. Guests are able to play unlimited FootGolf after 4:00pm on Ka’anapali’s course. ABOUT KA’ANAPALI GOLF COURSES
In addition to the FootGolf track, Ka’anapali Golf Courses also offers two championship 18-hole courses, a practice range and two putting greens for all levels of play.
The Royal Ka’anapali Course, a Robert Trent Jones Senior design, opened in 1962 and has tested the skills of golf professionals and amateurs alike. A Par 71 stretching 6,700 yards, the Royal Course combines wide fairways and undulating greens, making it both distinctive and demanding. Home of the PGA TOUR Champions Ka’anapali Classic for 14 years, the Royal Ka’anapali Course has hosted some of golf’s legends: Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Greg Norman, Fred Couples, Jan Stephenson and Betsey King.
The Ka’anapali Kai Course is a Par 70, 6,400-yard course and boasts an array of strategically placed bunkers, contoured fairways, and re-shaped and resurfaced greens. This course, host of Golf Channel’s #1 series Big Break Ka'anapali, is a challenge to play and places a premium on strategy off the tee, accuracy with approach shots, and a deft touch around the greens. During the summer months, Ka’anapali offers a Juniors Play Free program, where one junior (age 7-17) may play or ride for free with a paying adult any time on the Kai Course.
In 2005-2007, Ka’anapali Golf Courses invested over $13 million in renovations and infrastructure. Golf course architect, Robin Nelson, was brought in to oversee the rework of the Ka’anapali Kai Course and enhancements to the championship Royal Ka’anapali Course. Ka’anapali recently celebrated 55 years and was host of the PGA TOUR Champions SKIN GAME January 2008-2011.
