(LAHAINA, HI) – Ka’anapali Golf Courses – managed by Billy Casper Golf – will host golfers from 19 universities across America in the 2015 Ka’anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational on November 5-8.
The 54-hole, individual and team stroke-play event features golfers from Ball State, Bowling Green, California-Santa Barbara, California State-Northridge, Florida, Georgia, Gonzaga, Hawaii-Hilo, Hawaii-Manoa (host), Indiana, Kansas, Liberty, Loyola Marymount, Northern Iowa, Oklahoma, Sacramento State, South Carolina, Texas and Washington State.
“The competition and camaraderie at last year’s tournament were spectacular,” says Ed Kageyama, PGA General Manager of Ka’anapali Golf Courses. “Again, we’ve brought together another strong field of top collegiate golfers to face a stern challenge on the Royal Ka’anapali Course.”
The University of Oregon used a dominating performance last year to win the inaugural Ka’anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational, finishing at 33-under par 819. The Ducks set NCAA records on Day 1, posting a 30-under par 254 to set the new mark for lowest single-round score in relation to par and total strokes. The victory vaulted Oregon to No. 1 in the Golf Coaches Association of America poll, the highest ranking in program history.
The individual title also went to Oregon when freshman Aaron Wise sank a 20-foot putt to overcome the University of North Florida’s MJ Maguire in a sudden death playoff after both finished regulation at 10-under par 203.
Ka’anapali will again host a College-Am fundraising tournament on Thursday, November 5 to benefit the University of Hawaii Golf Team. Maui residents and visitors can play with current college athletes and future PGA Tour stars. For more information, contact Sutee Nitakorn at firstname.lastname@example.org.
About Ka’anapali Golf Course
Built on 300 acres of land once home to Hawaiian royalty, Ka'anapali Golf Courses present golfers with pristine conditions and stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and West Maui Mountains.
Opened in 1962 and designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., the par-71, 6,700-yard Royal Ka’anapali Course features wide fairways and undulating greens which make it both distinctive and demanding. The tournament-tested layout hosted the Champions Tour Ka’anapali Classic for 14 years, Shell’s Wonderful World of Golf, the Canada Cup and LPGA Kemper Open, welcoming Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Billy Casper, Greg Norman, Fred Couples, Jan Stephenson, Betsy King and other legends.
Complementing the Royal Ka’anapali Course is the modernized Ka’anapali Kai Course which hosted Golf Channel’s “Big Break Ka’anapali.” Extensively renovated in 2005, the 6,400-yard, par-70 layout boasts an array of strategically placed bunkers, contoured fairways and resurfaced greens.
